If your event promotion and outreach includes social media, I’m sure you’ve heard about IGTV. After looking through the platform and messing around with some of its functionalities, it could be the perfect unique tool for brands and event organizers to use for event outreach and event marketing.
So first off, let’s address the question:
What is IGTV?
IGTV is Instagram’s newly released video content platform, which focuses on long-form video content that can last up to 60 minutes.
This is a great avenue for you to engage with your audience through Instagram’s platform. If you already have a strong following there and you’re looking to strengthen your engagement and awareness before an event, IGTV might be the answer you’re looking for.
Why Is This A Big Deal?
Instagram’s reasoning behind IGTV is:
- To create video content that’s catered towards mobile users first (vertical videos)
- View content easily and intuitively (accessible)
- View content that’s curated to your tastes (shows the content of people you follow first)
This is huge for the industry as it alters the behavior of how we consume videos online. For event organizers, this is an opportunity to lead the space for creating long-form vertical videos for your events.
According to the blog released by Instagram,
“By 2021, mobile video will account for 78% of total mobile data traffic”
Now is the perfect time to think about how longer-form videos can be used for event outreach. With one billion monthly active users on the platform, it’s a viable way of reaching new faces.
Here’s What We Know So Far.
To access IGTV, you can find their icon on the top right of your Instagram app (next to the DM button). It should look like a small TV icon, which sits next to a paper airplane icon. When you click into it, you’ll be able to see the various content from people you follow, find videos through the Discover page, and view your channel to upload your own IGTV videos.
You can also download a separate IGTV app here, and they also offer web uploads for IGTV.
When you click into the IGTV icon, you’ll be able to see some of the latest videos in your feed by the people you’re following.
On the right-hand side, if you haven’t made a channel for your account yet, there will be a big “+” symbol. Click on that and you’ll be able to create your channel. If you’ve done that already, you’ll see your icon. When you click into it, it’ll lead you to your IGTV profile, which shows videos that you’ve uploaded already, and the “+” sign for you to add new videos.
You can choose videos that you’ve already taken from your phone’s library. The videos have to be in a vertical format and they must last from 10 seconds to 60 minutes (10 minutes for smaller accounts). Once you’ve chosen the video, you can edit the thumbnail image, add a title, description, and share it on your Facebook page. Then you click Post and you’re done! The videos offer insights once you’ve posted, such as Views, Likes, Comments, and Audience Retention.
How Can IGTV Be Used For Event Outreach?
Off the top of my head, there are several ways you can use IGTV for event outreach and event marketing.
Creating an introduction video for your event or organization can be the perfect way to onboard prospective attendees. It shows your guests what you do, what they can expect from your event, and what your company stands for.
Create video interviews with upcoming speakers at your event, team members that have special insights about features of the event, or even previous attendees about what they expect to see at the upcoming event. Interviews are great long-form content that provides insight from a third-party, which makes it more credible than promotional videos from the brand itself!
3. Venue Sneak-Peek
Take a walk around your venue with your phone out and film the venue so that your guests can see what’s in store for them! This is a great way to build hype for special features at your event!
4. Check-In Process Walkthrough
Before an event, you could take a video of what the check-in process will look like during your event! This can save you a lot of headaches on the day of the event. It also gives your guests something to get excited about. The anticipation of knowing that the event is finally coming can really build momentum.
5. Behind-The-Scene Footage
We’re not talking about short snippets the way you might’ve been doing through Instagram Stories. Full blown coverage of the behind-the-scenes for your event planning or your organization’s work day. This could be a great way at making your event team more approachable and “human” to your guests!
You could build a video clip of testimonials from some of your most valued guests. This could be taken in advance or during the event, both of which would serve as great content for your event outreach efforts.
If you haven’t seen IGTV yet, check it out. Take a look at your audience and following and if it works for you, dive right in! Just make sure that it’s the right social media platform for you to use in your event outreach!
